Product application

How do I know how much product to apply?

For most standard upholstery and fabric surfaces we recommend using 100ml per square meter (M2). If the material treated is a heavy/tick material, like a rug or a carpet, we recommend applying a second coat with an additional 100ml per M2 within 30 minutes.

How do I know if I can apply protectME?

protectME Textiles is a water based fabric protector that is safe to use on most fabric or textile surfaces. As some colour dyes are not colour fast, particularly rugs that are using vegetable dyes for example, we recommend testing the surface in a small inconspicuous area for colour fastness prior to applying all over.

What are nanotechnology or nano coating sprays?

Nanotechnology is the science, engineering and manipulation of matter at the nanometre level (billionths of a metre). Nanotechnology coating sprays surpass today’s standards in mainstream fabric guards as they have nanometric qualities that repel any liquid, dust or dirt, protecting textiles from dirt and stains. Nanotechnology’s properties are found in nature and therefore are environmentally friendly, biodegradable and safe to use around humans and animals. For more information, please read our dedicated blog article

What ingredients do you use?

We only use non-toxic, eco-friendly ingredients, and our fabric protector spray is water based. For more information, please read our Ingredients page.

Does it smell?

No, protectME Textile does not smell, it’s completely free of fragrances or masking scents, unlike traditional fabric protectors. For more information about ingredients, please read the dedicated page.

Do I need to leave the room after application?

Most traditional chemical based fabric protectors have very strong chemical smell once applied. protectME Textiles is completely free from odours and does not require the area to be evacuated during or after treatment has taken place. Please read our How to apply page for more information.

How long does it take to dry?

Being a water-based fabric protector, the surface will normally be dry after 3-4 hours. Please note that it will take 12-24 hours to fully cure.

How long does it last?

Our eco friendly fabric protector will last for 2-3 years before a reapplication is required, which is a lot longer than most traditional fabric protectors.

Is protectME UV stable?

Yes our non toxic fabric protector is UV stable and will NOT break down when exposed to UV rays, unlike other well know fabric protectors. However, this does not mean that fabrics won’t fade in the sun – please read next question.

Will protectME eliminate fading of colours on fabrics?

Despite the protectME waterproof coating being UV stable, it does not eliminate fading of the fabric colours in the sun. Applying our eco friendly fabric protector (or any other fabric protector for that matter) does not increase the SPF rating of a fabric or textile.

Is protectME safe for pets and children?

Yes, it is the first criteria we have as a family owned business when developing our products. They must be safe to use around kids and animals. For more information on ingredients, please read the Ingredients page.

What are PFAS?

PFAS or polyflurorinated alkyl substances are highly toxic synthetic chemicals, which are harmful to our health and the planet. They are present in most traditional fabric protectors like Scotchgard and Guardsman. They have been shown to have a causal link to changes in the liver, thyroid and pancreas, as well as hormonal changes, which can lead to potential cancer risk. PFAS are very persistent in the environment and in the human body – meaning they don’t break down and they can accumulate over time. For more information, please read our Ingredients page and our article about nanotechnology
